I started my new job at
St. Francis Hospital working on 5 South in the Med/Surge unit. Needless to say I have some pretty interesting stories (nothing like Keenan's ER ones though). Well, as all the employees are getting to know me I get the basic questions, "Is this your first time working in a hospital setting?" "Are you going to school for nursing?" "Did you grow up here?" "Are you dating/married?", but never anything about kids. I never really thought anything of it until I told another PCT about my 1 year old.
Tech: "Did you get to finish high school before you had him?"
Me: "Of course I did, I had him after high school."
Tech: "That is great that you got to get your diploma, most girls in your situation wouldn't have."
Me: "What situation? Having a kid?"
Tech: "Yeah being pregnant in High school."
Me: "Oh I wasn't pregnant with him in high school, I had him after I graduated."
Tech: "Oh I see, so you graduated over a year ago."
Me: "
Hahahaha, no I am 27. I graduated many years ago."
Tech: "Really???! I thought you were 18 or 19, wow do I feel dumb."
Me: "Don't feel dumb, that is a huge compliment."
This was not the first time I had this conversation since starting. A majority of my co-workers all have thought that I am younger than I am, usually guessing anywhere from 18-20. Looking at a few recent pictures I guess I can see where they think that I am younger than my age.
