Green & Gold Pride

I decided that it be best to instill in my son the joys of football, especially when it comes to the only all American team out there...The Green Bay Packers. Even though he was born in Illinois, I know that by default his blood runs green and gold and we wear these colors with pride! I do understand that our home is a house divided, which is why on the Bears game days I do allow him to wear his Bears jersey, after all he does have to root for his Uncle K's team.

Why So Serious...because curiosity got the better of me.

As soon as he became mobile, Lil G got into everything, but his favorite toy was markers. I don't know if it is because they look like the Popsicle's that he gets to eat, or if it's because he loves the taste of the wonderful colors he sucks the ink out of (yes they are non toxic-not made in China). It just so happened that one day he got into a deep blue marker and when we caught him I burst out laughing. He reminded me of the Joker from Batman. I looked at him and right away asked "Why so serious?" Of course he had no idea what I was talking about, and looked at me like I was crazy, especially when I was laughing at my own "whitty" joke.

A little bit later I was trying to clip his finger nails and noticed that he had a really nasty burn on his finger. We have no idea what happened to him at all or what he could have burned his hand on. The only theory we came up with was that he touched my hair straightener when I was curling my hair for church one morning. I am begining to think that my son feels no pain, because if that is that case then he never screamed or cried when that happened and never showed any signs of pain which is why it took me so long to notice the burn. Well, as soon as it was discovered he got the bandages put on and the burn ointment to prevent infection. The Little Man was a complete trooper and kept the bandage on until it healed, and even wore the sock over it all night.

I have learned from this that even when I am right by a hot iron, the quickest little hands can grab it faster than I can put it up. I have been better at making sure the straightener is out of reach be it on or off just to make sure that curiosity can't hurt him again.

Burgers as big as his eyes

We stopped at Steak and Shake for a quick dinner on the run. Lil G and Miss A shared a kids meal that had little sliders in it. The burgers looked so little to me until I saw my sons hands wrapped around the bun. The burger was a HUGE hit and had maintained a slot in one of the "edible" foods he won't push away. (Note: the ones he doesn't eat are because of texture, not taste, the kid loves sea weed...that says it all)

Happy 1st Birthday Lil G

It was hard to believe that my little man was turning 1 and now he is almost 15 months. I had been planning his 1st birthday for as long as I could remember. I am going to be honest, this was really for me because of my love of pirates. The pictures below showed a little into the glimpse of the chaos of fun that became our backyard. My favorite part was his meltdown after he had cake smashed all over him.

Cupcakes we made for the guests

This was a really fun 1st birthday and it was a perfect way to spend it with friends and family. Happy Birthday Lil G!

Yeah I graduated high school before I had my son...Why?

I started my new job at St. Francis Hospital working on 5 South in the Med/Surge unit. Needless to say I have some pretty interesting stories (nothing like Keenan's ER ones though). Well, as all the employees are getting to know me I get the basic questions, "Is this your first time working in a hospital setting?" "Are you going to school for nursing?" "Did you grow up here?" "Are you dating/married?", but never anything about kids. I never really thought anything of it until I told another PCT about my 1 year old.

Tech: "Did you get to finish high school before you had him?"
Me: "Of course I did, I had him after high school."
Tech: "That is great that you got to get your diploma, most girls in your situation wouldn't have."
Me: "What situation? Having a kid?"
Tech: "Yeah being pregnant in High school."
Me: "Oh I wasn't pregnant with him in high school, I had him after I graduated."
Tech: "Oh I see, so you graduated over a year ago."
Me: "Hahahaha, no I am 27. I graduated many years ago."
Tech: "Really???! I thought you were 18 or 19, wow do I feel dumb."
Me: "Don't feel dumb, that is a huge compliment."

This was not the first time I had this conversation since starting. A majority of my co-workers all have thought that I am younger than I am, usually guessing anywhere from 18-20. Looking at a few recent pictures I guess I can see where they think that I am younger than my age.
